In early 1998 Industry Canada was under a mandate by the Hon. Minister John Manley to kick start e-commerce in rural Canada. A consortium partnership was formed between Industry Canada, Strategic Profits Inc., RBC Financial Group and GE Capital! Strategic Profits Inc. provided the proven business model for SME e-commerce through their proven education training programs, web development, shopping cart and e-payment expertise. RBC Financial Group, the leader in Internet payment, provided the Internet Merchant accounts, GE Capital provided the secure hosting environment and Industry Canada brought the merchant in through 10 different rural and urban CAP sites.

Communitystorefronts.com was launched as an e-commerce pilot June 20, 1998 as Canada's Premier Marketplace for shopping and fundraising securely online.

The pilot was highly successful and communitystorefronts.com became a commercialized portal for SME's looking for innovative, cost effective, online training, e- business and e-philanthropy solutions and Internet marketing to help them increase their business revenues and client base.
